THE MARCH 14 EVENT IS CANCELED.
March 14 = 3/14 = 3.14 “Pi Day” at Kingston Repair Cafe & Bike Clinic in the Rondout neighborhood
Bring your beloved but broken item, and together, with a volunteer Repair Coach, fix it... for FREE!
This Repair Cafe is loaded with special activities! Math fans know that March 14 is “Pi Day” (3.14). The Bard Math Circle will have cool activities: crafting paper to show why the area of a circle is 𝜋 r squared, computing the value of 𝜋 with string, learning how to draw a circle “free-hand,” and even investigating the famous Buffon Popsicle Stick Problem: “what happens when you drop a popsicle stick to the floor…” Parents and kids are invited (and yes, we will have real pie to eat courtesy of Hannaford’s).
Plus, do you want to know more about how your smart phone works? Maybe even learn how to fix it yourself? Jennifer O’Donnell will demonstrate how to diagnose common problems using the free online resource called iFixit. It doesn’t take a genius! So bring your smartphone and learn about the digital device that is such a big part of your life. The DIY Demo will take place at 1:00 PM, but Jennifer will be there the whole time to answer questions.
Bike-Friendly Kingston & experts from the Kingston Y’s Bike It! program will be with us, partnering again to provide basic bicycle repairs & tune-ups. Yes, for free. If you need parts we don’t have on hand, you will need to pop over to one of our excellent bicycle shops in Kingston: Utility Bicycle Works at 228 Wall St., Revolution Bicycles on 388 Hasbrouck Ave or Kingston Cyclery at 985 Morton Blvd.
We welcome Michelle our “Zipper Wizard” for zipper repairs!
Mechanical, electrical, electronic & computers, clothes mending, jewelry repair, things made of wood, toys.
Plus metal repairs with on-site welding! (weather permitting). Bring a beloved but broken item! Bring a friend!
Do you have questions about what kind of items you can bring for repair? Or would you like to offer your skills to repair things for your neighbors?
