BEACON
Beacon’s Repair Cafe was organized by Antony Tseng in 2016 and ran wonderful events for 3 years at the Howland Cultural Center on Main Street, with a great cadre of fixers and menders. The Department of Stuffed Friends was particularly popular!
In 2017, the Beacon Housing Authority invited them to set up in the Community Room of the Forrestal Heights Apartments, as part of their Resident Opportunities and Self-Sufficiency program. This worked out great! Skills meet needs. Then, in 2019, Antony (who is also a dad) got elected to the Beacon School Board. Congratulations...but you know what that meant. And then in 2020 of course everything ground to a halt.
We are thrilled to be bringing the Beacon Repair Cafe back as a joint initiative with the new Fishkill Repair Cafe and look forward to seeing you at a cafe in one of those two towns soon.
