Castleton-on-Hudson’s Repair Café was founded in 2017 by Gina Giuliano and Bob Schmidt and held regularly in the village until the start of the pandemic in 2020. The cafe returned to the village in March 2026.
A Repair Café is a free event, with neighbor helping neighbor to bring new life to loved items. Volunteers repair small appliances and electrical items, computers and digital devices, torn clothing and dolls, children’s bikes, small wood furniture and dull tools and knives.
The event promotes community interaction and reduces waste by encouraging repair over replacement. The event is one of the actions promoted by the Village’s Climate Smart Communities Task Force to mitigate the impact of climate change.
